  • Where is Mangatawa Marae located?

    At 42 Tareha Lane, Mangatawa, Tauranga.

  • Who do I contact for bookings or enquiries?

  • How do I book the marae?

    Complete the Booking Form and pay the $100 bond. Your booking is confirmed once you receive an invoice and the bond is paid.

  • How much does it cost to hire the marae?

    All groups (iwi, govt, trusts, etc.): $450 per day

    Minimum booking (up to 2 hours): $250

    School groups (includes hill visit): $450 per visit

    Whānau / Tangihanga: Koha

  • Do I have to pay a bond?

    Yes, for all bookings except tangihanga, a $100 refundable bond is required

  • Can tangihanga or unveilings override my booking?

    Yes. Tangihanga and unveilings always take precedence. The marae will help you rebook or relocate if needed.

  • What facilities are available?

    Wharenui, Wharekai, and Ablution Block. Overnight stays are included in the daily hire rate.

  • Is catering available?

    Morning Tea – $10pp

    Afternoon Tea – $10pp

    Lunch/Dinner – $30pp

  • Can we self-cater?

    Yes. If self-catering, you must bring your own kai, rubbish bags, gloves, and supplies

  • What are my responsibilities as a hirer?

    Follow cleaning and closing procedures

    Bring your own linen (sheets & pillowcases)

    Pay for any damage or loss

    Respect tikanga and marae kawa

  • What about alcohol, smoking, and drugs?

    No smoking or drugs onsite. A designated smoking area is outside marae grounds.

    Alcohol must not be sold. If you wish to serve alcohol, written approval is required

  • What time must events finish?

    All events must end by midnight (12am)

  • What are the cleaning expectations?

    Sweep and mop floors in Wharenui, Wharekai, and toilets

    Remove all rubbish (including recycling)

    Take away leftover kai

    Fully clean kitchen (benches, ovens, fridge)

    Stack mattresses, return tables & chairs

    Clean ablution block

  • Who opens and locks the marae?

    The marae will be opened for you. One set of keys is issued and you must lock all doors and windows before leaving

  • What health & safety measures are in place?

    Fire extinguishers, first aid kit, and AED will be shown on arrival

    Evacuation map is in the kitchen

    In emergencies, dial 111 and notify the Booking Officer

  • What should I know about the OSET system?

    Mangatawa Marae uses an On-Site Effluent Treatment (OSET) system.

    Do not pour food scraps, oils, or grease down sinks

    Use food scrap bins provided

    Use biodegradable dishwashing liquids and cleaners (no bleach)
