Nestled at the base of Mangatawa maunga in Tauranga Moana, Mangatawa Marae stands as a whakaruruhau for for whānau to connect, learn and uphold the values passed down through time.
As a living hub of community life, Mangatawa Marae supports a range of kaupapa – from educational wānanga and reo revitalisation to whānau events, hui,and celebrations. Our doors remain open to whānau near and far, and we continue to evolve with the needs of our people.
Through innovation and tradition, Mangatawa Marae is committed to uplifting our community by nurturing the next generation.
The name Mangatawa refers to the maunga behind the Marae. According to purakau, Mangatawa and its neighboring hills are the tohora Hikurangi, Mangatawa and Kopukairoa, who lay resting on the shore of te Tahuna o Rangataua.

Book the Marae
Mangatawa Marae is available for hire, providing a welcoming space for hui, wananga, whānau gatherings and special events.
Our facilities include:
Wharekai (Hall) – Spacious dining and gathering area.
Kitchen – Fully equipped for catering needs.
Toilets & Showers – Bathroom facilities available (showers on request).
Wharenui - Sleeping and meeting quarters for hui and overnight stays (overnights on request).
